Smart Fish Processing cuts emissions by 25%
Sofrimar transformed into a smart manufacturer using simple plug & play, easy to deploy, wireless IoT (Internet of Things) sensors combined with our real-time operational monitoring & alerting platform. Fundamentally, Sofrimar changed its approach to asset management to assure the quality of its product whilst eliminating waste across operations.
Sofrimar installed Cognition’s non-intrusive, plug-and-play wireless sensors for real-time data capture. Recorded data points included electricity consumption, utilisation and consumption from energy-intensive appliances, environmental conditions of freezers, human activity from the factory floor as well as HACCP compliance readings. Operational data is fed into Cognition’s advanced analytics platform which allows the client to access the data from their desktop or portable devices. The client has access to tailored KPI’s and real-time intelligent alerting to understand when operational parameters are out of sync.
Insights from the Cognition World platform enabled identification of conditions & constraints impacting energy consumption, under-performance in monitored assets, supporting processes and production dependencies that impact overall operational performance. The project reduced energy consumption, automated compliance, and created a platform for sustainable savings opportunities.
The key outcomes:
• Electricity usage decreased by at least 25% for monitored assets
• Over-cooling of 2°C identified and optimised across all cold stores and freezers
• 7% energy saving identified per °C optimisation in cold stores and freezers
• Energy metrics used for management reporting – kWh consumption/kg of produce

'Smart' Fruit & Veg processing reduces storage costs
In a fruit & veg processing plant Cognition World has deployed dozens of unobtrusive IoT data-capture sensors, feeding real-time operations information into Cognition World analytics platform. The platform alerts when activity falls out of tolerance with the client’s pre-determined operational standards. Alerts target performance anomalies where savings can be made in energy, asset usage or productivity.
Powered by Cognition, the plant captures almost 100 live metrics to help understand hard to monitor but expensive issues, such as:
- Tracking chiller door activity for productivity and compliance
- Monitoring the movement of people and occupancy of storage areas containing critical-stock
- Visibility of out-of-time asset usage and non-compliance with internal standards
- Monitoring light levels during and outside of operational hours
